Our three months Here

We are Margit and Irina from Estonia. We came to Tampere on 31st of  January. We both are doing here our radiologytechnician practice. Three months... And now comes short story about..how its has been for us...
Arrival---> Finland. Ok. Our neighbor. How different it can be (except the language). Before coming here only thing that we knew was that we stay in Tampere and we have to do our six different practices. That's it. We were soooo worried about everything - how?what?where? But when we arrived everything was organized already. We met our tutors and they explained everything. First week was really busy. All papers and papers and signatures and papers. Orientation week was useful. We got lot of information about Finnish people and coustums. And in the evening only really good and safe place was our room.
First practice---> First day at hospital. We were so scared. We both did not sleep night before. Did not know what to expect or hope. I started in x-ray and Irina was in MRI. We were just like in the middle of something but felt like we are lost. Our Finnish language was beginners one and that's why was really hard. You are not doing much with sentences –My name is Margit and i come from Estonia. First days we only wrote...wrote and wrote. Everything that we heard. Later at home Google translator was our best friend. Our Finnish learning book didn't helped us a lot. We can say that first practice was so hard that we started to think why we are here. We really wanted to understand and learn. Sometimes we felt that we are just in others people way and we are disturbing. When we got home in the evenings only thing that we could think was sleeping. Really exhausting.
Second weeks---> It just got better and better. We learned Finnish language every day. We even spoke with each other in Finnish. To practice :D Practice places were great and the more we got use to the work arrangement the more easier it got. For us was really weard and hard to get used to the coffee breaks. We wonder if the Finnish people can sleep at night after such a big amount of coffee. All day ...coffee. That's something that was really new for us. And lunch..workers here take their time to have a lunch. Nobody is running and the lunch is time for eating. Second thing that we noticed in the next weeks was that all workers are dressed the same and only thing that you can be different is—SHOES :D Working shoes..we love them. How could imagine that there are so many different and nice shoes. We are use to usually..white. But here..the colors , patterns, shape. That was something that we really liked to look (even if its sounds a bit weard).
People---> We can use only one word –FRIENDLY! Its amazing how they treat the patients. Workers are friendly, patients are friendly. There is TIME for every patient. Nobody is rushing and work gets done. In sädehoito practice was really surprising how joyful the patients were. I ques we can say that we saw most smiles J in those two weeks. The connection between workers and patients are something special. We have been together with lots of different workers. Every place new faces, new names..but friendly attitude is everywhere same.
Surprises---> One day..8th of March-->Women day :) the biggest surprise for that day.We were in sädehoito and listening the smart talk that one doctor was telling to students about treatment(cause it was a treatment that's quite rare...was there lots of people watching it)..and 10 minutes later..this doctor comes to us and says in pure Estonian language "happy women day to you also"..he was ESTONIAN..so we were lucky and he translated this procedure that he made also for us ..so we could understand better :) It was such a good day :). And also we had a chance to see a patient from Estonia. It was so funny to speak Estonian. Now we have a new friend who will show us the Tampere and makes us feel like tourists. Every day brings new surprises and makes us wonder...how much more is possible??We have seen so unbelievable things. I was just watching mouth opened when they were trying to get angio stents through 2mm vessel...or how they made treatment for 1 DAY old baby..amazing.

End---> Last day in hospital and saying „good bye“ was so hard. It felt like we just got there.  And also all the people were so friendly and we were sad that we will never see them again. We walked through all hospital to collect last memories and think again about this time that we spend. There was good times and sad times. But no bad times....we didn't ruined anything, we didn't kill anybody, we didn't broke anything and nobody yelled or screamed at us. So...we really managed well J
Back home---> Now we are back. One week. And...we wanna go back. Its so hard to get used to the busy life and serious people. Would like to smile to everybody (but then they think that you are not normal). So..we try to get back to our every day life. And when somebody asks how was Finland, we can only say AMAZING...cause it was really amazing. It was more than we expected and hoped. We even miss early waking and this tunnel between school and hospital. But we have great memories about TAYS, people, everything that we saw.
Thank you all who helped us in those tree months!
Thank you for those memories!

All the best!
Margit and Irina (Estonia)
